The last few days I’ve been finishing these pink band bangles which will be coming with me to @artisanmadeuk at Skipton Auction Mart next weekend 23-24 March. There’s quite a buzz around this show, more than I’ve seen for other shows I’ve done recently. I wonder if it’s because it’s the only show in the UK that is dedicated to independent designer makers and is more accessible to emerging talent. Trade shows are often very expensive for small businesses but this one is affordable and it sounds like there’s lots of new people attending. 160 stands at the last count!

I learnt a new word today – Reuleaux - a curved triangle with constant width. I didn’t know it was even a thing until I made these. I can’t guarantee their constant width as they’re all cut by hand but isn’t perfection overrated anyway? I prefer to describe them as original and unique!

The transformation from dyed flat sheet aluminium to cuffs and earrings. If only it was that quick in reality! The metal is built up with layers of colours and once sealed is hand cut, hand polished and hand formed into jewellery. It’s been a while since I’ve done this design-led trade fair so I'm hopeful it’s going to be a good one. The organiser have said that the selection process for the CRAFT section have been tightened up to make it more strict so the majority of exhibitors are true craftsmen and women that are crafting things by hand and uniquely by themselves. So, the CRAFT section is bespoke, handmade, a real craft event. I’ll be on Stand CRF01 and looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting new ones.

She wanted a blend of purples, oranges and golds with different effects for the bangle and ring. The metal's been painted using the same colours on both sides but in different ways so the bangle displays the smoother blended colours and the ring displays the mottled effect. The same, but different. Make sense?! It's always exciting talking through customers ideas, it generates enthusiasm and lots of new ideas and inspirations.
